Lent, Day 8, Marilyn Mandel - Seeking Answers from God
Seeking Answers from God
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6
Everyday we face important decisions that require our discernment; socially, in business and in family affairs. Decisions so important that we feel we can’t be indifferent as to the outcome. They make us seek and search our hearts as to the possible results for how we decide to deal with them. When we pray and ask God for guidance we find the ability to notice which choices bring us a sense of life, love and freedom in our hearts (Galatians 5:1; 22-23).
God’s will for us is generally to pursue life and love and turns us away from choices that drain life from us (Deuteronomy 30:15-20; John 10:10). As we make it a habit to notice and respond to decisions that give us life it keeps us in touch with the truth about God, ourselves and the world. We have God’s wisdom to advise us, existing within us; as Jesus blessed us with the gift of the Holy Spirit. God’s power and love is within us always to guide us through life. As 2 Timothy 1:7 says, "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."
